Christian Gansch was born in Austria in 1960 and studied piano and violin at the Hochschule in Vienna. From 1977 to 1981 he was leader of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and during their frequent international tours often performed with them as soloist. From 1981 to 1989 he was a member of the Munich Philharmonic, and subsequently worked for a time as a senior producer for Deutsche Grammophon. His conducting career began in 1985 when he was asked to rehearse Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and The Firebird for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, which led directly to an invitation to conduct the Berlin Symphony Orchestra for a series of concerts at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Christian Gansch has worked with numerous orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the NDR Sinfonieorchester, the MDR Sinfonieorchester, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lille, the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
